Aggressive passenger at Miami International Airport – NBC 6 South Florida

A man was caught screaming, screaming and violent on camera in the American Airlines terminal at Miami International Airport on Friday. Miami-Dade police say the man is a veteran in the crisis.

“Where is the police?” could be heard in the video.

The man can be seen yelling at airport staff, pulling down barricades, kicking a sign and then getting physical.

Police responded by arresting the passenger, who was eventually taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and examination, Miami-Dade police said.

According to MIA, aggressive passenger behavior has increased.

The FAA has the numbers to prove it. In 2019, 150 cases of recalcitrant behavior were recorded across the country.

In 2021 there were more than 3,800.

To stay safe, Linda Bumstead, a Washington, DC-based flight attendant, is one of many airline employees who take self-defense classes to prepare for such situations.

The course has been taught since 9/11 but has been in great demand lately.

“The world has gone a little crazy so I’m not completely surprised, but I want to be able to protect myself,” said Bumstead.

De-escalation techniques and other security measures are also taught. Flight attendants say they don’t want to use any of this, but the number of incidents continues to rise.
