NS. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) – Wander Franco extended his streak on the base to 30 games with a double single, fellow rookie Luis Patiño made it into the sixth inning and the AL East-leading Tampa Bay Rays won their eighth in a Row and beat the Boston Red Sox 6-1 on Monday night.

Brandon Lowe made his 31st homer on Boston starter Nick Pivetta’s first pitch and sent the Rays on their way.

Boston, which led the Rays by 1 1/2 games in a three-game series at Tampa Bay on July 30, dropped nine games behind in the division race.

Bobby Dalbec hit his 18th homer for the Red Sox, who lead two games ahead of Oakland for second AL wildcard place.

The 21-year-old Patiño (4-3) gave up one run and five hits in 5 2/3 innings. T

The Rays took the lead 3-1 in their fourth game. Kevin Kiermaier hit a two-out double, finishing third when Mike Zunino hit a wild pitch while falling out and hit Lowe’s high hopper over Dalbec for a single.

Pivetta (9-7) allowed six hits, five walks and four earned runs with six strikeouts in five innings.

TORONTO (AP) – Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit two homers to bring his season total to 38, Robbie Ray took his first win in six starts with seven innings, and Toronto won their third straight win with a win over Baltimore.

Guerrero hit a solo home run against right-handed Chris Ellis in the fourth inning and a three-run blast against right-handed Marcos Diplán in the seventh.

Bo Bichette hit a game-defining single against Dillon Tate (0-4) in the sixth, and Teoscar Hernández followed with a double run.

Ray (10-5) allowed two runs and four hits and dropped 10.

Toronto’s George Springer walked 1 for 2, scored two goals, got hit by a pitch and stole base on a busy return to the line-up after missing 13 games with a sprained left knee.

Ryan Mountcastle homered and had two RBIs for the Orioles. The Baltimore loss dropped to 3–24 in August.

WASHINGTON (AP) – Bryce Harper homered in the first inning and Philadelphia won their fourth straight win with a win over Washington.

Brad Miller went deep too, and Ronald Torreyes added a base-loaded triple for Philadelphia, which improved to 7-1 at Nationals Park that season.

Josiah Gray (0-2) allowed six runs in four innings, the shortest of his six starts since joining Washington at the Dodgers close of trading.

Zack Wheeler (11-9) threw six innings for Philadelphia, giving four runs while striking four.

CINCINNATI (AP) – Jon Lester allowed a hit as he crashed into the seventh inning, Paul Goldschmidt homered and St. Louis approached the Cincinnati slump in the NL wildcard race.

The Cardinals closed for second wildcard within 2 1/2 games of Cincinnati. San Diego is between them.

The Reds have scored a run in each of their last three games, all of which have lost.

Lester (5-6) retired 16 consecutive thugs after giving up his only hit, Kyle Farmer’s leadoff home run in the second inning. He went two to hit five in 6 1/3 innings, taking his fourth straight win. Giovanny Gallegos threw ninth place for his third parade.

It only took the Cardinals two strokes to take a 2-0 lead. Luis Castillo (7-14) led Tommy Edman to the game. Goldschmidt followed with an opposing field homer to the right, his 22nd of the season.

DETROIT (AP) – Bailey Ober put in six solid innings and Josh Donaldson’s two-time homer helped Minnesota beat Detroit.

The twins won three out of four. Detroit lost four out of five and only got nine runs.

Ober (2-2) kept the sinking Tigers offensive on two runs with five hits in six innings. He stroked five without running a batter. Alex Colome won his 10th parade.

Tigers starter Casey Mize (7-7) gave up three runs on five hits – including Donaldson’s Homer, his 21st of the season – in six innings. He went one and turned down four.
