4 more children hospitalized; Cases hold steady

With a surge in COVID cases with Delta variants in Leon County, more children are being hospitalized with the virus than ever before.

On Tuesday, the number of COVID-positive children at Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare rose from four to eight, with three of them falling into the “seriously ill” category, meaning they need intensive care, according to a TMH snapshot.

That surge has brought the total number of children 17 or younger hospitalized with COVID-19 to over 70 since the pandemic began.

Almost 70 COVID patients have died since the first day of August – the highest number the hospital has ever seen. January held the previous monthly record with 43 deaths.

More from TMH:

The total number of COVID patients in Tallahassee hospitals is 24, split between 141 at TMH – of which 46 are “seriously ill” and mostly unvaccinated – and 100 at the Capital Regional Medical Center.

All of Capital Regional’s COVID patients are adults, spokeswoman Rachel Stiles said.
