Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is a proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s college recruiting channel and all of the engagement news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them along the way.
Julia Guardian from Beverly Hills, Michigan, made an oral commitment to Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. She currently swims for Marian High School and represents Motor City Aquatics in club competitions.
I’m very excited to announce my oral commitment to swim and study at Miami University. Thank you to all of my coaches, teammates, friends and family who supported me on this journey! Can’t wait to see what the future holds! GO REHAWKS #loveandhonor
While representing Marian High School, Waechter has qualified for the Michigan High School D3 State Championships each season, swimming the 50s and 100s free each time. In the 50’s she showed remarkable consistency by reaching the A-final every year, with two fourth places in seasons 18-19 and 19-20. She made it to the podium in the 20-21 season and finished third. In the 100 free runs that she has swum every three years, Waechter has twice landed the A final places, with places 5 and 4 in the last two years.
Top times SCY:
- 50 free 23.57
- 100% free- 51.57
Editor’s Note: The best times were from a November 2020 high school meeting that was not approved by USA Swimming, so they will not appear in the USA Swimming database.
Miami University is an NCAA Division 1 school participating in the Mid-American Conference. In the 2021 edition of their conference championships, Miami finished third of eight teams, just behind the University of Buffalo and the University of Akron.
Although Waechter would be placed outside the conference-level points range in their main events based on last season’s results, a drop of just a few tenths in the 50 would be the difference to get into that points range as it took 23.58 to make it back. In the 100 she would have to drop back about a second to collect points, as it took 51.60 to get 16th place and get into the B final.
Miami has a particularly strong sprint program, with two women in the A-final and two in the B-final in the 50th. Three of these athletes made it back into the 100 Free. Two of them are said to be in Miami when Waechter arrives: Honor Brodie-Fay and Rachel Bottingwho will both be juniors this season and were both under 24 and under 52 in the 50’s and 100’s frees, respectively. However, Nicole Maier is Miami’s best sprinter last season and will also be junior when Waechter is enrolled in Miami, despite swimming 500 Free and 200 Fly at the conference meeting, winning the 500 and finishing second in the 200 Fly.
Waechter will participate Avery Catalano, Caitlin Horn, Brooke-Lynn Clark, Audrey Conley, Madison Saldanha, Maggie Patterson, Jenna Halliday, Mady Bachmeier, Maddie Zehr, Ashley Sego, and Mollie Lumsden in Miami’s 2026 class. This class will be Miami’s second largest, with the largest coming from its 2025 class of 13 athletes.
