TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) – Governor’s Square Mall is the newest location of the Tallahassee monoclonal antibody site, and these treatments are known to be 70 percent more effective at treating COVID-19.
The antibody infusion site is located in the abandoned Sears store in the mall and is ready to treat 320 patients a day, seven days a week.
There are now 21 monoclonal antibody sites in the state of Florida.
The senior project manager for the location, who couldn’t get on camera, told ABC 27 that the location was strategically located to service the big bend region of Florida the first day.
South Georgia Medical Center has been operating its monoclonal antibody treatment facility since early August and has performed over 1,800 treatments to date. When asked if monoclonal antibodies were a substitute for vaccination, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Brian Dawson absolutely no.
“This is another layer in the treatment that we have in the fight against COVID-19. We know that vaccines offer us an effectiveness of 90 to 95 percent protective layer even for those who get sick,” said Dr. Dawson. “It still gives them a better chance of getting a better result than not getting vaccinated at all.”
SGMC requires a positive COVID-19 test to receive treatment – but this newest attraction in Leon County doesn’t require a positive test. However, as there are only a limited number of treatments available per day, it is recommended that you get tested before treatment.
