Congregation hosts march for 4 year old victim of shooting

TAMPA, Fla. – On Sunday afternoon, parishioners marched through the streets of East Tampa in honor of four-year-old Suni Bell. Tampa police say Suni was shot dead in a drive-by shooting last week and the shooter is still on the run.

“I miss Suni very, very much. I raised her. This is my big baby I am madly in love with her. And I just want justice, ”said Brenia Harrison, Suni’s grandmother.

Your family and church do not give in until they experience justice. The local neighborhood boxing league organized the march on Sunday as part of their “Guns Down Gloves Up” movement.

“You’re fed up with people crying, you’re fed up with saying ‘rest in peace’, you’re just fed up with it,” said Juda Hicks, the owner of the Neighborhood Boxing League.

That’s why Hicks started the movement. In an effort to encourage people to use a different way of expressing their anger and frustration.

“He takes the whole community and the young men with him, and they come together and unpack their frustrations. Learning how to put your frustration in a ring and use it with technique, not anger, ”said Pastor Elvis Piggott of the Triumph Church of Tampa Bay.

They believe that ending the violence in East Tampa begins in the community.

“Look, I did 17 funerals during the pandemic and none of them were from COVID. Young men shot down and young men under 30 years old. And we no longer celebrate 30 year birthdays. Our church is in trouble, ”said Pastor Piggott.

They urge members of the community to hold each other accountable and members of the Tampa Police Department say it is required

“It’s their community, they have to take it back. We always say we have 1,000 of us, there are 400,000 people in the city. They will see things and find out about crime faster than we do, we need your help to solve the crime, “said Tampa deputy police chief Ruben Delgado.
