MIAMI (CBSMiami) – If you’ve lived in South Florida for any length of time, you shouldn’t be surprised to hear a report from ApartmentGuide.com that names Miami third on the subway list with the most cockroach sightings.
The surprise should be that we’re not number one. In any event, Miami ranked third after Houston and Atlanta as the cities with the most cockroach infestation.

Here are some things you can do to keep cockroaches away:

1. Keep a Clean Room: Pests thrive in dirty, unkempt spaces. Regularly dispose of trash, wipe down, sweep, and mop the counters.
2. Examine your house for cracks and leaks.
3. Store trash properly: Store your trash with a secure lid.
4. Store food properly: Seal your food, keep the pantry clean, and store food properly.
5. Make repairs: Water damage, cracks and holes can cause the animals to camp.
6. Place cockroach traps around your house and replace them frequently.
7. Your mom told you that there was a reason why you shouldn’t be eating in your bedroom.
8. Vacuum regularly.
