The NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs have been as entertaining as ever. After such a robust and entertaining first three rounds, the finals were a little snooze festival. The house Steve Yzerman built is making its way into what appears to be a back-to-back NHL championship. This should give fans of the Detroit Red Wings a lot of hope for the future.

Although Detroit’s adopted son has returned home, the sight of the Tampa Bay Lightning dismantling Montreal should give us a lot of optimism.

Yzerman took down a Tampa Bay franchise and made it the bully they currently are. Yzerman left the organization a year early for his sake, otherwise he would become a Stanley Cup-winning general manager (GM). Although he didn’t receive a ring, his fingerprints remain scattered throughout this Lightning list.

During his eight years at the helm in Tampa, the Lightning made three conference finals and one Stanley Cup final, despite not winning a title. Still, he actually laid the foundations, and the current GM Julien Brisebois is reaping the profits.

I don’t mean disrespect for Brisebois; He took a few steps and added a plethora of RPG players like Pat Maroon, Blake Coleman and Barclay Goodrow to the high profile roster left by Yzerman. Steve certainly left Brisebois with a Ferrari to drive. In the meantime, he has decided on a Ford Focus in Detroit.
