Red Eye Coffee, brings the community together with every cup

Red Eye Coffee, brings the community together with every cup

TALLAHASSEE, Florida (WTXL) – A coffee shop in Tallahassee serves the community in the form of a latte.

“It’s so much more than a coffee shop,” said Barby Moro, Red Eye CEO and partnering manager.

She said founder Mark McNees started selling Red Eye coffee in 2004 to raise funds for a big impact. Originally, Red Eye was founded as an Element3 Church nonprofit program.

Moro was part of the new leadership that took over in 2018.

“It has evolved from a non-profit to a for-profit society with a social impact, but the heart for the community and the desire to get involved in the community have remained the same,” said Moro.

This is true as Red Eye donated over $ 100,000 to nonprofits and global organizations in Tallahassee and an additional $ 250,000 for humanitarian causes.

Moro said that building a community for Red Eye is about more than donating.

“When I talk to people, they often say, oh yeah, I had a meeting at Red Eye and that’s how this idea came about,” said Moro.

Moro said the multiple locations in Tallahassee mainly sell locally made products like candles, honey and hot sauces.

“When you come to Red Eye and support Red Eye, you are not only supporting Red Eye, but also this small ecosystem of local entrepreneurs and micro-businesses to make a bigger impact,” said Moro.

Barby moved to Tallahassee to study at FSU, but over the years she has made this place her home.

She said she takes pride in helping Tallahassee grow with every cup of coffee.

“Kind hearts deserve great coffee, and for us great coffee not only tastes good, it is also good for us, from the farmer to the customer,” said Moro.
