Tallahassee Pastor shoots 50,000 free throws in 50 days

Perry Dissmore

For the past 32 days, the ball has literally been life for Perry Dissmore. Dissmore walks to the free throw line for 35 minutes a day and shoots until he hits his daily goal of 1,000 free throws a day. It is defiantly an achievement to meet every day, but shooting free throws has long been a part of Dissmore’s life.

He has broken and broken the Guinness World Record for the most free throws in an hour three times, with the most recent record being set by Dissmore in 2018 with 2,395 free throws. In honor of his 50th birthday, Dissmore has set himself the goal of eliminating 50,000 free throws in 50 days. However, these recordings do not fall for anything.

As part of Missions Madness through Freedom Church, where he is a pastor, Dissmore aims to raise $ 50,000 and 50,000 free throws over 50 days to build a basketball court for a church in Sri Lanka.

“Instead of hiding and sulking about my 50th birthday, I wanted to party and have some fun with it,” Dissmore said. “I set out 50 days before my birthday to raise money for a mission project to build a basketball court in another country … I use my platform as a world record holder to shoot 1,000 free throws a day, and I have me has to do it. The challenge for me is to do all 50,000 under 50 hours. “

There are many 1950s moving in Dissmore’s efforts to raise money for the basketball court and to advance their own efforts. However, he didn’t do it alone. Not only did Freedom Church ward members donate to the cause, but they were right under the net feeding Dissmore Rebound after Rebound.

Dissmore’s three children were busy recovering but also stressed the need for more help in a video promoting their father’s cause. He said his 13-year-old daughter likes to ricochet under the net, while his son prefers shots to the side.

Perry Dissmore earned his first Guinness World Record for most basketball free throws in an hour on the Regis and Kelly Show in 2010.

“You were great and so was everyone else who helped me,” said Dissmore. “I’ve had pastors helping me, kids, church people, and even girls’ basketball teams. Today I’m shooting with a soccer team. It was just amazing.”

The community has stood up for Dissmore’s cause and raised over $ 30,000 in 32 days to keep Dissmore informed about his goal. On the pitch, Dissmore is currently moving at a healthy pace, sucking off the 1000 strokes daily in just over half an hour. It may appear that Dissmore is a machine that fires so many shots a day and is constantly breaking its own world record, but he said he is feeling some fatigue.

A handful of things have to go right to deflate a free throw. Keep your arms straight, constantly raising your legs to avoid pain in the calf muscles, and staying mentally focused on the goal all the time. Dissmore kept up, but there were some bumps in the beginning.

“On day three, my arm started to hurt and I thought it wasn’t a good idea to do,” said Dissmore. “I contacted a friend in our church who does physical therapy and he helped me with some exercises. I felt great after that, but sometimes my elbow and forearm and shoulders really hurt. My glasses broke shot yesterday 186 and I had to take over 800 pictures without my glasses. ”

On the mental factor, Dissmore said he shoots better when crowds are cheering him on than when he shoots alone at night. He also turns on multiple rims, in driveways and in schools, so he had to adjust to a new tire almost every time. Despite all the changes, Dissmore continues to keep pace and shoots at each rim under an hour. It came closest to the hour point at 53 minutes, the day Dissmore was struggling with his shoulder.

Dissmore said he is confident he will hit his free throw goal unless “his body falls apart” but there is some concern about hitting the money goal. Still, he believes all of the money will be received by August 6th.

“It’s kind of a step of faith in proclaiming a vision like this,” Dissmore said. “You don’t know whether people are jumping on board or clapping from afar. People jumped in with their time and money. All of this is going to serve a good cause because I can go out and shoot anything I want, but there are some places that don’t have a basketball court. We’re trying to bless this country with a place where they can learn about basketball and Jesus. ”
