CAPORAL
A Southwest Florida Waste Pro driver is hailed as a hero after saving a woman’s life.
Allen Wilson was on his garage route when he heard a woman call for help on Palm Tree Boulevard in Cape Coral.
“I stopped and went to the house to get her trash can,” said Wilson.
Then Wilson heard a dog barking, which is unusual.
“I took the trash can down to the house and the lady must have heard me and when I picked it up I heard her call for help,” said Wilson. “I open the door and she lay face down on the floor. She said she’s been lying there for hours screaming for help. “
The woman fell, hit the head and broke her hip.
Wilson called 911 and stayed with the woman until the first responders arrived. Wilson was recognized by Waste Pro with the company’s Franklin Award for quick thinking. The award came with a $ 100 bonus.
The woman’s daughter, Kristi Sonntag, said her mother was fine.
“She says she just doesn’t know what she would have done without him,” said Sonntag. “It honestly warms my heart that he was compassionate enough and thoughtful enough. I think that’s because of his character, that he stayed there and waited and gives her consolation. “
“Hopefully she can meet Allen one day,” added Sonntag.
