GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) -200 city employees filed a lawsuit Thursday to stop the city commission’s vaccine request. The next day, hundreds of employees flocked to Gainesville City Hall to reiterate their demands on city officials.
The lawsuit states that the plaintiffs are “police officers, firefighters, laborers and other municipal employees,” many of whom protested in front of City Hall for the third time.
“The vaccine is great, if you want to take it, take it,” said Senator Keith Perry. “But if you have a government mandate, do so and you saw the outcry. I think GRU did an internal survey that could maybe stop 50% plus. That would be a crisis, but they remain so firm in their belief that this is a real possibility that would happen. “

The lawsuit includes a GRU poll showing that nearly 60% of employees would quit, retire, or be laid off because of the city’s vaccine policy. City workers should present proof of vaccination by October 1 or expect disciplinary action. Perry showed his support for the city workers at their demonstration.
“And it was really about looking, if they didn’t change course, it would ask for an injunction because the city commission didn’t even look up and say what if a large number of our employees just quit? We understand anecdotally what that would mean, you flush your toilet and it doesn’t work. “
