What you should know
Get ready for an ACC battle when the Miami (FL) Hurricanes and Duke Blue Devils clash at Brooks Field at Wallace Wade Stadium on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. ET. Miami (FL) will stalk after a win while Duke will stumble after a loss.
The Hurricanes claimed a 38-26 win over the Virginia Tech Hokies last week. Miami (FL) QB Tyler Van Dyke did his thing and passed on 33 tries for three TDs and 357 yards. Near the top of the highlight role was Van Dyke’s 75 yard TD bomb against WR Brashard Smith in the second quarter.
Meanwhile, the night started and ended tough for Duke last Thursday. They suffered a heavy blow on the Louisville Cardinals and fell 62-22. Duke was in a difficult position halfway through, 35-9. A silver lining for them was the game of QB Riley Leonard, who in addition to rushing for a TD and 70 yards collected 99 passing yards. Leonard hadn’t helped his team much against Virginia Tech two weeks ago, so this was a nice turnaround for him.
Special teams collected ten points for the Blue Devils. K Charlie Ham delivered a perfect 3-on-3 game.
The Hurricanes are the favorites for the game with an expected 21 point lead on victory. But bettors watch out: they are only 2-4 against the spread if they are favored.
Miami (FL) is now 6-5 while Duke is sitting at 3-8. Two defensive numbers to keep in mind before kick-off: Miami (FL) stumbled into the matchup with the nation’s 210th most permitted pass touchdowns after giving up 21 of the season. Duke has seen some of his own fights as, at 29 in the season, they are the 247th worst in the nation for legal pass contacts. It is possible that one of those Achilles heels could trip the losing team.
