Man from Naples accused of beating and kidnapping a woman

NAPLES, Florida – According to a police report, a Naples man is charged with beating and kidnapping a 27-year-old woman.

Jeffery Verbance, 40, faces kidnapping charges after officers find a woman in the back room of Verbance’s house. She had a visible bruise on her left eye that was almost swollen shut, a bruised and puffy upper lip, and the entire left side of her face was swollen.

The unidentified victim said she and Verbance were traveling from Tallahassee to Naples on November 22 and got into an argument while driving. She said he hit her face and head, and also bit her hand. He stopped the car shortly afterwards, picked up her phone and let her get out on the side of the road, but later returned to pick her up.

When they got back to Naples the woman stated that she had been in the bedroom since the car ride and asked Verbance and another woman who was also at the house, Catherine Finigan, to take her to the hospital for her injuries and they both said no to a Collier County Sheriff’s Office arrest report.

Upon arrival, authorities found that there were many bungee cords wrapped around the door handles on the front door of the house, making it impossible for anyone inside to get out. Entry was on the back porch, and Finigan replied, not allowing MPs to enter her home.

Verbance and Finigan are both held in the Collier County Jail.
