NS. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) – St. Petersburg police arrested a woman for stealing her neighbor’s cars and then selling them for scrap.
Monthly rent in Tampa is increasing 30%, averaging over $ 2,000, studies show
Rosalee Baker, 55, from St. Petersburg is said to have tried to sell the 2001 BMW and a 2000 Ford F-150 to a junkyard in Hillsborough County, according to an affidavit from the SPPD. Baker reportedly took the car and truck and contacted a buyer from Small Planet Recycling, LLC.
She posed as the owner in order to sell the vehicles for scrap. Baker was arrested on Thanksgiving.
According to St. Petersburg Police, Baker and a representative from Small Planet filled out a sales contract, a form for a rundown motor vehicle, and an application to revoke a title for the BMW. She did the same for a silver Ford F-150.
Baker gave her Florida ID number and a thumbprint on the title cancellation form, and then got $ 300 for each car.
The car and truck were then towed to a junkyard, where they were deemed stolen while in its possession, the affidavit said. Due to the location of the junkyard, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has been notified of the stolen vehicles.
A latent fingerprint has been confirmed by a pressure tester, according to police, and the owners of the BMW and F-150 intend to file a complaint.
AG Garland orders a more aggressive strategy for mile-long crimes in a memo to the Justice Department.
Baker was arrested on six counts. She is confronted in two cases for trafficking in stolen property, in two cases for a false inspection of the property, and in two cases for a serious theft of a motor vehicle.
Bond was valued at $ 130,000, according to Pinellas County Prison records.
