Arizona man convicted of controlled substance in Tallahassee - CBS Atlanta

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (CW44 news at 10) – A federal jury in Tallahassee found Daniel Gutierrez, 37, of San Luis, Ariz., Guilty of possession of methamphetamine and fentanyl for the purpose of dissemination. The guilty verdict, pronounced yesterday after a three-day trial, was pronounced by Jason R. Coody, the acting US attorney for the Northern District of Florida.

Evidence presented at the trial showed that Gutierrez was driving a vehicle-loaded semi-trailer truck on I-10 in Madison County, Florida on September 19, 2020. A Florida Highway Patrol trooper discovered that the trailer’s license plate was hidden and initiated a traffic stop. A dog was used during the traffic control and alerted to the presence of narcotics.

During a search of the vehicle, the troopers found a clear bag containing about 30 grams of methamphetamine and a separate bag containing about 10 grams of what appeared to be oxycodone pills. Laboratory analysis by the Drug Enforcement Administration confirmed the presence of methamphetamine and found that the pills believed to be oxycodone contained fentanyl.

“Florida Highway Patrol works tirelessly to keep our safety and is a vital part of our efforts to remove addictive and lethal controlled substances from our communities,” said acting US Attorney Coody. “Together with our partners at DEA, they are to be commended for their commitment.”

Gutierrez’s conviction is scheduled for October 12, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in the US Courthouse in Tallahassee before the Honorable US District Judge Allen Winsor. Gutierrez faces ten years ‘imprisonment, a fine of up to $ 5,000,000, and five years’ supervised release.
