TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – The Tallahassee Fire Department said they responded to an apartment and duplex fire in about six hours.
The call for the first fire came in around 6 p.m. Monday and the crews were sent to an apartment on the 400 block on West College Avenue, TFD says. Upon arrival, the firefighters found that the building’s sprinkler system was putting out the fire. TFD says the crews were working to remove smoke and water from the apartment.
All people safely escaped from this fire. TFD found that the fire started while cooking in the kitchen.
The call for the next fire came on Tuesday around 12.20 p.m., says TFD. When the crews reached the maisonette on the 2300 block of High Road, everyone outside was safe.
According to TFD, firefighters reported a fire through the roof on one side of the maisonette and it began to reach the second residence.
“The crews quickly attacked the fire from within and prevented it from spreading,” the press release said.
The part of the duplex where the fire broke out was uninhabited and under construction, say the firefighters. According to TFD, the cause of the fire is still being investigated.
The Tallahassee Police Department and Leon County EMS assisted TFD on both scenes.
TFD says it is providing two smoke alarms free of charge to homeowners who are either physically or financially unable to buy or install their own smoke alarms. You can make a request online using the form at this link or you can call 850-891-6600.
