A man from South Florida has come under fire for comments on social media in support of the Cuban government – and a photo of him with Cuban leader Miguel Diaz-Canel.
In a tweet on July 11th, the day of widespread protests on the island demanding freedom, Rodolfo Davalos, the son of a top legal adviser to the Cuban government, wrote: “When the revolution falls, you will find me in Cuba, my father , Kneel on the floor, rifle in hand, defend Fidel’s work. “
On July 16, he added “Long live #Fidel” as part of a tweet.

In an interview with NBC 6, Davalos said that doesn’t mean he supports communism.
“That’s a wrong assumption. I don’t believe in socialist ideals. I don’t believe in communist ideals. I stand against war and support people who are not ready to go to war, which is apparently the right of the Cuban government.” now. “said Davalos.
Davalos says he received around 200 death threats for what he said.
Social media users shared the photo, saying he was the son of Cuban leader Diaz-Canel, but he is not.
Davalos’ father Rodolfo Davalos Sr. is President of the Cuban Arbitration Court on the island.
Davalos said he was in contact with his father many times to campaign for change on the island.
“I pay a heavy toll for that,” he said.
Davalos Jr. told NBC 6 that he was a US resident and was part of a State Department task force set up during the Obama administration to advise the Secretary of State on relations with Cuba.
Davalos said that despite the recent protests in Cuba, he would not call on Cuban leader Diaz-Canel to resign.
“I don’t think it’s the right moment. I think the Cuban people have a choice, “he said.
Davalos said that videos of people protesting on the streets and shouting for freedom from dictatorship are more about wanting better living conditions on the island nation.
“The data I have is people screaming for food and things like that and in short supply on the island,” he said.
