Southwest Florida continues to prepare for Elsa El

Southwest Florida continues to prepare for Elsa El

BONITA SPRING

Tropical Storm Elsa can affect southwest Florida, so now is the time to add all of these essentials to your hurricane kit.

People have stocked up on supplies and topped up gasoline, especially before some shops close for July 4th.

For the time being, water remains a hot commodity. Fortunately, there has been no shortage of things like batteries, flashlights and wood in a Home Depot since Saturday.

People are trying to get what they need and they still say quiet.

Peter and Joanna Goumeis collected sandbags and filled up with petrol. They have gone through several storms and they say you can never be too careful.

“At least enough flashlights, batteries, water. Especially water. Food you can eat so you don’t have to cook when they say best evacuate what they say, “said the Goumenis.

People feel like they are prepared for anything that brings Elsa to Southwest Florida.

They have set up their plan and are stocked with supplies.

But how does that affect people’s plans for July 4th?

Most people come from other parts of Florida, like Miami or Tampa, just to enjoy the weekend. These people say they are one step ahead of the storm – for now.

Some have decided to leave and others are prepared for the rain on Monday or Tuesday night.

Juan Seggy and Gonzalo Fernandez are visiting from Miami. “Yes, it’s just a tropical storm, just the rain, just take it as it comes,” Seggy said.

“We wanted to leave Monday anyway, we’re not worried, the biggest thing that will happen is my pool screen will be torn up, that’s about it,” said Fernandez.

Of course, many people still hope to catch up on last year’s lost celebration and see the fireworks that the city of Fort Myers Beach is putting on.

You can watch from the city’s 26 beach access points and it starts at 9pm on Sunday.
