The Southwest Florida Symphony’s upcoming Diamond Jubilee season features guest conductors and a range of performances including Masterworks, Pops, TinyConcerts, and Holiday Pops.

In the symphony’s 60th anniversary season, guest conductors will lead the orchestra in a year of artistic transition. Guest conductors are maestros Vladimir Kulenovic, Laura Jackson, Stephen Mulligan and Radu Paponiu.

In addition to a round anniversary, the orchestra will finally start looking for its new music director after the pandemic forced the search process to be postponed last season.

The symphony ends its 60th season with a pop series featuring “experienced artists” who celebrate some of the greatest music of the 1970s.

The Pops series honors symphonic classics of a different kind: The lively strings of the disco era with “The Music of The Bee Gees” on October 23rd and the “Music of Elton John” on April 30th.

The Masterworks Classical Concert Series was curated by all four guest conductors, along with the orchestra’s music director search advisor, Bob Moir.

Mr. Moir served as Senior Vice President, Artistic Planning and Audience Participation for the Pittsburgh Symphony for 26 years.

The Diamond Jubilee Masterworks Series features well-known works such as Stravinsky’s “Firebird Suite”, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7 and Haydn’s Cello Concerto No. 1. The guest conductors and Mr. Moir have also woven undiscovered compositions into the Masterworks Series to complement well-known works.

The repertoire of masterpieces includes the St. Georges Symphony No. 1, Op. 11 by Joseph Bologna and “Fiesta!” By Jimmy Lopez Bellido. The Masterworks Series concerts are scheduled for December 11th, January 22nd, February 19th and April 23rd.

Holiday Pops programs will be offered at venues in Lee, Charlotte, and Collier Counties December 1-14. Festive string quartet performances take place at the Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center’s annual Festival of Trees, the tree lighting of the bell tower and the tree lighting of Mercato in Naples.

A larger ensemble will be performing for Christmas with a big band twist with guest singer Heather. deliver

Ivy at the Gulf Theater in Punta Gorda, the Village Church in Shell Point, and the First Presbyterian Church in Bonita Springs.

The symphony continues their collection of TinyConcerts, which proved quite successful when Florida emerged from the pandemic. These performances will also span three counties.

The Goldberg Variations will be from 11.-13. November listed; Pianist Andrew Armstrong returns with a string quartet from the Southwest Florida Symphony in “VIPiano” March 10-13; and guitarist / singer / composer / arranger / storyteller Andrew Lipke returns from 11-15. May back with “Rock & Roll and the String Quartet Remastered”.
