Mother found dead in the car in front of two young children, St. Pete police say

PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) – St. Petersburg Police are investigating after a woman was found dead in her car with two young children in the back seat.

Sandra Bentil, public information officer for the St. Petersburg Police Department, said an 911 call came in around 5:30 p.m. Saturday for reports of a person who was shot dead in the 100 block on 60th Street South.

When officers arrived, Bentil said they found 27-year-old Joana Peca dead in a car with an apparent gunshot wound. According to police, Peca’s two young children were unharmed but frightened in the car.

“Two young children are going to bed without their mother tonight,” said Bentil.

The police are now asking the community for information about the incident.

“Whenever we have children whose lives have been affected by violence in this way, we ask the community to come forward,” she said.
