Just in time for Thanksgiving, Miami Zoo has something different to thank after a mother bald eagle, seen on live camera, laid her first egg.
Miami-Dade Mayoress Daniella Levine Cava tweeted the good news late Wednesday night, calling it an “early Thanksgiving present.”
An early Thanksgiving gift came for these majestic birds in our own South Florida ward.

The mother eagle laid the egg around 9 p.m. The recorded images showed the moment and the eagle sleeping afterwards.
Dade County Wildlife Rescue
Zoo Miami has launched its live Bald Eagle Cam in partnership with the Ron Magill Conservation Endowment and Wildlife Rescue of Dade County.
With the camera, the world can now go online for free and connect to the livestream for an intimate look at the life of a linked pair of bald eagles as they continue to build their nest and raise young to become the next generation of these majestic creatures.
This is one of the few eagle nest cams in the world that allows viewers to see the behavior that leads to the actual construction of the nest, in addition to rearing chicks, Miami Zoo said in a press release.
It must be noted that although it is hoped that this pair of eagles can successfully raise offspring, nature can often be cruel.
Zoo Miami warns viewers that it will have no influence or control over the behavior of these birds and that many things can go wrong. For reasons unknown, the parents may leave the nest, lay eggs that never hatch or are eaten, or if eggs hatch, the kittens may not survive.
Parents can even bring prey that the onlookers find bothersome, and feeding that prey to the eagles can be pretty vivid.
To ensure the safety and privacy of the nest, Zoo Miami does not disclose the exact location of the nest as any disturbance could cause the parents to abandon it.
