TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) – Paul Kjellman spent his Thanksgiving evening with the Tallahassee Salvation Army filling their free Thanksgiving meals for the community.
“The enjoyment of the food is great, but I think people beat the food and the food is amazing,” said Kjellman.
Kjellman was one of 500 people who joined the Salvation Army on Wednesday afternoon. He said the volunteers made the meal special.
With COVID-19 keeping people away from loved ones, Captain Stephan Wildish says the volunteer meal is ready for what’s most needed this week of the holiday.
“Lots of people have been locked in their homes and because they didn’t know what was going on, people have socially distanced themselves from friends and family,” Wildish said.
And while the Salvation Army satisfies need on Thanksgiving.
Project Annie Johnson’s Annie Johnson and her volunteers prepare to feed 1000 people Thanksgiving Day.
“I feel good because someone might be depressed and that might help them,” said Johnson
Johnson and her team will wake up at 4:00 a.m. Thanksgiving morning to prepare and cook the rest of the food for their feast.
A Thanksgiving tradition Johnson has practiced in Tallahassee for over 20 years
“The Lord put it on me and told me to feed his people, so I’ve been doing this for 23 years,” said Johnson.
The Salvation Army and Project Annie show that, with the help of their team, ordinary people can feed hundreds when the need is greatest.
Project Annie will operate from its headquarters at 625 West Fourth Avenue, Tallahassee, Thursday morning 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Project Annie will continue to prepare dinner for over 1,000 people this Christmas.
