FORT MYERS, Florida., June 11, 2021 / PRNewswire / – ATP Flight School breaks ground and begins construction of a new pilot training center in Page Field (FMY), Ft. Myers, Florida. Given an expected shortage of pilots following the pandemic, the new 19,000-square-foot building will increase ATP’s capacity to train the next generation of pilots.
The new Ft. The Myers facility will join ATP’s 60 other locations to increase training capacity.
With 9,000 square meters of teaching, briefing and simulator space, ATP will use the facility exclusively to train prospective pilots in the Airline Career Pilot Program. Starting with zero experience, students are well on their way to a career as an airline pilot and graduate in just nine months. Adjacent to the training center will be a 10,000 square meter maintenance center dedicated to the professional inspection and maintenance of ATP’s training feet.
ATP is already in Ft. Myers Page Field and has received brand new Piper Archers. 25 of these Garmin G1000 NXi-equipped aircraft will be delivered during 2021 as ATP increases training capacity across the country.
With future pilot retirements beyond the capabilities of the training industry, ATP has expanded access to airline pilot training everywhere Florida. In addition to Ft. Myers, Jacksonville, Daytona Beach, Orlando, Ft. Lauderdale, Stuart, and Tampa ATP opened training centers in locations this spring Sarasota, Lakeland, and Boca Raton.
“A shortage of 12,000 pilots is expected by 2023, according to the analysis of Oliver Wyman, and pilot training will now be well positioned to take advantage of this opportunity, “said Michael Arnold, Marketing Director, ATP Flight School. “ATP’s new facility will provide budding pilots at Fort Myers with the best training and resources to get to airlines first and build their careers as soon as possible.”
The course dates for the Airline Career Pilot Program start every Monday at the existing Ft. Myers location, the construction of the new training center should be completed in January 2022.
