Hospital stays in Leon County continue to rise

Leon County's hospital admissions increase dramatically

At least seven other people in Leon County have been hospitalized for COVID-19, according to local hospital data.

Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare reported that 30 inpatients were positive for COVID-19 as of Friday, an increase of four since Thursday.

The Capital Regional Medical Center reported 28 positive inpatients, three more than on Thursday.

This happens two days after both hospitals have issued a joint statement asking the community to get vaccinated. TMH has also reopened its COVID-19 wing to meet the recent surge in COVID-positive patients.

Backstory:

“Many hospitals have seen a trend toward increases in hospital admissions, with the majority of those admitted being unvaccinated,” CRMC spokeswoman Rachel Bray-Stiles said in a statement.

She added that if the surge continues, the hospital will have space and resources to devote to COVID-19 patients.

Hospital officials have emphasized that vaccinations are the most effective way to prevent the virus from spreading. People who have been vaccinated can still get the virus, but these so-called “breakthrough cases” are less likely to cause severe symptoms, according to health officials.
