This week we take a deeper look at food insecurity – and the growing demand for help in the greater Tampa Bay area.
Moderator Steve Newborn speaks to Thomas Mantz, President and CEO of Feeding Tampa Bay, one of the largest food banks in the region. It provided more than 95 million meals to residents in 10 counties of West Central Florida over the past year.
Later on on the show, Steve speaks to Dr. Catherine Campbell, professor at the University of Florida Department of Food and Agricultural Sciences who specializes in community food systems.
Campbell explains that many Floridians struggled at the start of the pandemic, as the state’s food producers and farmers also struggled with the large-scale changes to their crops and production schedules. She says this has led to a better understanding of where the Floridians get their food.
