Miami Zoo broke its attendance record by welcoming more than a million guests in 2021.
“We are very excited to have reached this milestone, especially during an unprecedented pandemic,” said Will Elgar, director of Miami Zoo. “We are forever grateful for the support of our community that visited us after the reopening and for those who continue.”
The global pandemic brought zoo closings and setbacks after years of nearing the milestone. Despite the obstacles, Miami Zoo has finally made history with a record attendance.
Miami Zoo will have a lot to celebrate in the New Year. Guests can expect music, giveaways, surprises and other special activities.
The zoo has big plans for 2022, including opening a new sea turtle hospital to heal and care for turtles so they can return to the wild. They will also continue plans for a new veterinary clinic to replace the one that opened in 1986.
“Our goal has always been to offer all of our animals first-class care,” said Elgar. “Other plans for 2022 include improving the current animal exhibits.”
