Sunpro Solar owner cited again for exposing workers to fall hazards following a construction site investigation in Naples, Florida
Marc Jones Construction LLC puts Texas workers at risk in 2020 and 2021.
One of the nation’s leading contractors for installing solar panels in residential buildings has again violated federal occupational safety requirements at a workplace in Naples, Florida. Despite being cited twice within two years, the company continued to expose its workers to dangerous falls. According to the US Department of Labor’s OSHA investigation, the agency cited Marc Jones Construction LLC – trading as Sunpro Solar – for a repeat offense after inspectors found workers exposed to falls. This is the leading cause of death and serious injury to workers in the construction industry.
According to a press release, the agency also quoted the company for allowing workers to climb extension ladders while carrying loads that could have resulted in a fall and for failing to provide fall protection training to employees. OSHA cited the Louisiana-based company twice in Texas for similar violations, in San Antonio in January 2021 and in El Paso in April 2020. OSHA proposed $ 160,913 in fines for the violations.
“Marc Jones Construction has repeatedly ignored the law and failed to protect its workers from known fall hazards,” said Condell Eastmond, OSHA area director in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. “OSHA will continue to hold this company accountable until it meets its obligations and meets OSHA standards.”
Marc Jones Construction LLC, headquartered in Mandeville, Louisiana, is a commercial and privately owned solar panel installation company operating in 21 states. In 2008 the company founded Sunpro Solar. The company has 15 working days from receipt of its subpoenas and penalties to comply, request an informal conference with the OSHA area manager, or challenge the results in front of the independent OSHRC.
