The previous Station 1 on the Athens motorway was built in 1973 along what is now a busy motorway corridor.
EMS chief Christie Grice said one of the benefits of the new station is less traffic.
“There was highway traffic coming your way in both directions, so that’s a big plus,” said Grice.
The firefighters will have single bunks instead of a military-style bunk room.
County spokeswoman Katie Crumley previously told the Times the station “contains a vastly improved mechanical / ventilation system that will prevent cancer-causing first-aiders from migrating or building up on calls to other areas of the station”.
There is also a ventilated room specially designed for storing the station’s fire fighting equipment.
Crumley also said there was potential for improved ISO insurance ratings for local residents.
